Indian Club Swinging

You may have noticed the 2 new videos here:http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=excelsiorgroupsport#p/a/u/0/EAcOl5boVrc

The first demonstrates some exercises with Indian Clubs. These were a common tool in use at schools at the beginning of the 20th century across the UK. Classes of children used them in their Physical Training lessons in large formations before school started. Back then the schools realised the benefits of getting children physically active before starting lessons.

id=BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426177696863968930I use Indian Clubs as either a warm up before weight training, or as a specific exercise to help strengthen wrists, elbows and shoulders. This is important for many athletes I work with including: wheelchair basketball, golf, throwing events, swimming, fencing and martial artists.

This type of work can be used as a compliment to the sagittal plane lifting obsession of rugby weight training programmes too.

Thanks to Martin Fricker for showing me how to use them (although he is much better at it than me!)

The 2nd video shows some more dumbbell exercises that I use- there are a lot more to go, but it does show that there is more to weight training with dumbbells than bicep curls.

Soundtrack provided by local band http://www.leavebeforedawn.com/ One of the members – Scott Broomfield trains with me.
