James Marshall has over 30 years of coaching experience across many different environments — from after-school gymnastics to supporting national and international athletes at junior and senior level.
He constantly seeks to improve his own coaching practice through formal education and by learning from other coaches; his network of coaching peers across Australia, the USA and Canada keeps him close to current coaching research.
He draws on his own experience as an athlete and competitor — he represented England at Shotokan Karate at the World Cup in Tokyo (2004) and Great Britain at the Masters Weightlifting World Championships in Finland (2024) and Athens (2026) — to bring genuine empathy to his coaching, whether he's working with a complete beginner, an injured footballer, or an athlete competing on the international stage.
