Mini Band workouts

Do you want to improve knee control?

Poor knee control and stability could be a balance problem originating from the hip/ gluteal area. I have been using mini bands over the last couple of months with some of the young athletes to help improve this.

Cheap, portable and different from the usual things, they seem to have been a hit.  Have a look at some of the exercises here.

I would recommend doing these twice a week, in conjunction with your normal sport and strength training.

Using functional exercises like this to improve balance and stability is something I feel very strongly about. I have seen so many gym users who feel that they are surpassing their training goals by being able to lift 100’s KG’s on fixed resistance machines when in reality they are unable to perform basic functional exercises.

In my experience, many young athletes could benefit from using these exercises as poor knee stability seems to be very common. I feel that any exercises like these, which reduce the chance of injury and make performance more efficient, should be a core element of any training programme.
