Energy system regulator:AMPK
A lot of talk is given about energy systems within sport, most of it derived from research in the exercise science field.
One interesting aspect is the individual response to fat utilisation post exercise, or in periods of fasting. It appears that AMPK could be the enzyme that dictates the level of fat utilisation.
This will have implications for those who are genetically disposed to suffering from diabetes.
However, an extremely bad diet with no exercise has recently been found to also influence the body at gene level, not just cellular level.
