Excellence at all levels

Do you save your elite coaching for your elite performers?

Do you lower your coaching standards for athletes at younger age groups or who play in lower divisions?

Or do you strive to deliver your best performance at every session that you take and with every athlete you encounter?

I heard this week that one funded organisation stated “we are not about service delivery” and that “we don’t have to be excellent, we leave that to the EIS”.

So their raison d’etre is what exactly?

I have seen one practitioner plan and deliver for Professional team X, but not prepare for Junior athletes the same day.

Is one group more worthy than the other?

Whether you are a primary school teacher, an assistant coach at your under-11s team, a high school coach or a University conditioning coach: your role is important in helping that young person develop and enjoy their activity.

Failure to strive towards this is simply unprofessional.
